Resident Evil is an upcoming horror film, the second reboot and eighth film in the Resident Evil series, based on Capcom‘s Resident Evil video game franchise. It is directed by Zach Cregger and written by Cregger and Shay Hatten. Set during events paralleling the game Resident Evil 2 (1998), albeit in a modern era, the film follows Bryan (Austin Abrams), a medical courier who must fight through a viral outbreak of infected monsters in Raccoon City during a delivery. Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, Johnno Wilson, and Paul Walter Hauser feature in supporting roles.

Constantin Film began planning another Resident Evil reboot in early 2022, following the critical and commercial failure of Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (2021) and the cancellation of the 2022 Netflix television series. Cregger was hired in January 2025, and Sony Pictures‘ PlayStation Productions joined the production. Four studios, including Warner Bros. Pictures and Netflix, bid for the film rights,^[4] with Columbia Pictures winning in March.^[5] Filming began in October 2025 in Prague.

Resident Evil is set to premiere at the 21st Fantastic Fest on September 17, 2026. Sony Pictures Releasing is scheduled to release it theatrically on September 18, 2026.

Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom is an upcoming British stop-motion animated comedy horror film directed by Steve Cox and Matthew Walker and written by Mark Burton and Giles Pilbrow. Produced by Aardman, it is based on their television series Shaun the Sheep, itself a spin-off of the Wallace & Gromit short film A Close Shave (1995). It is the third film in the franchise, following Shaun the Sheep Movie (2015) and A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon (2019). The plot follows Shaun attempting to save Halloween as a mad scientist until the farmer is suddenly missing, while a beast wanders the woods.

Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom is scheduled for release on 18 September 2026 by Sky UK in the United Kingdom, GKIDS in the United States, and StudioCanal in the rest of the world.

During the lead-up to Halloween on the Mossy Bottom farm, the farmer accidentally destroys his sheep flock’s pumpkin patch. Shaun becomes a mad scientist to fix the problem, but things worsen; the farmer goes missing, and a wild beast is found roaming the woods of Mossingham.^[2][3][4]

Knife: The Attempted Murder of Salman Rushdie is a 2026 American documentary film that details the recovery of Salman Rushdie after his attempted assassination in 2022. The film is based on his memoir Knife: Meditations After an Attempted Murder. It is directed by Alex Gibney.^[3]

The film premiered at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival.^[4] It is scheduled to be released at the IFC Center in New York City on September 17, 2026.^[1]

On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, 93% of 15 critics’ reviews are positive, with an average rating of 7.1/10.^[5] Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, assigned the film a score of 83 out of 100, based on seven critics, indicating “universal acclaim.”^[6]

Kate Erbland of IndieWire gave the film a B+ and wrote, “Rushdie provides voiceover throughout, and there is an immediate impact from hearing a man narrate his own attempted murder, and with such a calm (and often darkly humorous) demeanor. David Rooney of The Hollywood Reporter wrote, “While it feels a fraction overlong, Gibney’s film is a vibrant testament to the intellectual life of its subject.”^[8]
